JUVENTUS SET SCORING RECORD Juventus have scored 31 goals in the first 10 Serie A games, the best record by anyone in 66 years. The Bianconeri beat Spal 4-1 in Turin last night, meaning they have now scored 31 in 10 games, even better than Napoli’s record of 29 in the same period. Indeed that record is better than anyone has managed at this stage since the 1951-52 season. In that campaign it was Juve themselves who boasted the same record after 10 games, going on to win the Scudetto by seven points - in the days of two points for a win - while scoring 98 goals.

LEICESTER CITY APPOINT CLAUDE PUEL Leicester City have appointed the former Southampton coach Claude Puel as their manager following last week’s   dismissal of Craig Shakespeare . He has signed a contract until June Leicester interviewed several candidates for the position that has been held on a temporary basis for the past two matches by Michael Appleton, who will revert to his assistant’s role. Puel will be unveiled on Friday and will take charge of Sunday’s home match against Everton. Puel was   let go by Southampton   in June despite leading the club to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League and the final of the Capital One Cup. Southampton flopped in the Europa League and decent domestic results were deemed not good enough to compensate for a style of play that many supporters decried as too defensive. Several players disliked his rotation policy. Puel told French media he was let go “for a little bit more than sporting reasons”. Puel, who has since been withou

CLEVERLEY – WE ARE CONFIDENT  AHEAD OF CHELSEA GAME Watford midfielder Tom Cleverley believes his team-mates can approach next week's game against Chelsea full of "confidence" after a strong start to the Premier League season. Cleverley secured the three points for his side against Arsenal on Saturday with a dramatic last-minute winner, putting Marco Silva's side in fourth spot after eight games. Watford have only been beaten by Pep Guardiola's rampant Manchester City, who sit top of the league, and Cleverley is hopeful they can come away from their trip to Stamford Bridge with a positive result. "We have only lost once this season against by the far the best team in the league (Manchester City) so we can go to Stamford Bridge with confidence," Cleverley told the club's official website. "We know it will be a really tough game, we have to be really organised and focused but we will be back to work on Monday to hopefully get a good

MASCHERANO  TO RETIRE AFTER RUSSIA 2018 Javier  Alejandro Mascherano will retire from international football after next year's World Cup finals in Russia, the defender said on Thursday. "My end point is Russia, there's nothing after that," Mascherano told Argentina broadcaster TyC Sports. Argentina beat Ecuador 3-1 on Tuesday to clinch a place in Russia in a must win match for the underperforming side. Argentina  reached the final in Brazil three years ago, losing to Germany in extra-time, while they also lost the finals of the 2015 and 2016 Copas America. However they struggled in the qualifiers and needed a hat-trick from Lionel Messi to get them to Russia. The 33-year old Barcelona defender, who sometimes plays in midfield, said the opportunity to win a major title for his country was one of his last remaining playing ambitions. "I don't have that many things in my life I still want to do," he said. "Playing in a World Cup a

NAPOLI  IN FOR CHIESA Napoli could go back in for Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa next summer, with reports they’re willing to pay around €40m. The Partenopei were interested in the forward for this season, but the Viola made it clear he was not for sale. The Florentine club would still be reluctant to sell, but this morning’s Corriere dello Sport states that Napoli are not giving up. President Aurelio De Laurentiis is determined to bring Chiesa to the San Paolo, and is willing to offer up to €40m. Given his excellent relations with the Della Valle family, who own Fiorentina, the Napoli patron is confident a deal can be done.”

CHIEVO PLAYERS VOTED SERIE A’S HARDEST WORKERS Statistics show that five Chievo players are in the top 15 for distance run in Serie A this season. Rolando Maran’s side aren’t known for their beautiful football, instead focusing on organisation and work rate, something which has kept them in Serie A since 2008. Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport takes a dive into the Flying Donkey’s stats, noting that of the players who have played at least four games, only Roberto Inglese and Manuel Pucciarelli are under 28. That focus on experience hasn’t affected the physicality of Maran’s team though, with five players in the top 15 for distance run. Lucas Castro has run more than anyone, covering 83.154km so far, with Ivan Radovanovic in second place. Fabrizio Cacciatore also makes the top 10, with Inglese and Përparim Hetemaj cracking the top 15. In addition, Radovanovic and Castro make the top five for metres covered a full intensity. Chievo’s fitness coach, Roberto De Bellis, takes
